Dorris Keeven-Franke recommended a couple of cool old houses out in St. Charles County that are worth showing. The first one, located in northern St. Charles City, is the Thomas Lindsey House, built by slaves in the 1830s.
The second house is located a ways away in Dardenne Prairie near 364 in the middle of a subdivision, like the previous house. This is increasingly very common, as the old farms are sold off and subdivided into housing developments.
This house was begun by Dr. Robert McCluer, but was completed by his son-in-law Dr. Muschaney after he died. It was also completed with slave labor.
The house has received extensive additions as part of its renovation.
We also spotted this house along old Highway 94 just southwest of St. Charles.
Everybody is always thinking they’re finding summer kitchens in St. Louis, but this is one instance where this building to the left across the breezeway where it might actually be the case.
The house has received many additions and is now an optometrist’s office.
